9-1-1 Calltaker Job Description

This position receives and evaluates emergent and non-emergent calls for emergency service agencies in Huntsville, Alabama and across Madison County. Calltakers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls and act as a critical part of emergency situations by facilitating requests and ensuring procedures and protocol are followed. Selected candidates will be responsible for routing the request for service to the appropriate agencies. 9-1-1 Calltakers deal with sensitive information and candidates must be able to handle that information in a discreet and professional manner.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher


Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts (6:00am - 6:00pm/6:00pm - 6:00am)
  • Type at least 35 words per minute with 90% accuracy
  • Perform in and pass a computerized applicant test
  • Complete a comprehensive personality profile assessment
  • Participate and pass a thorough background check, interview and polygraph test
  • Receive and pass a physical exam per the requirements of the position and pass a pre-employment drug screening
